POTENTIAL JOB OPPORTUNITY

In an effort to maintain a continuous eligibility list for hiring of future positions, the Franklin County Civil Service Commission has determined a need to test candidates for the position of Clerk within the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Any potential candidates will need to submit a completed Franklin County Civil Service Job Application and resume, and will need to complete a written examination. Once a list has been certified by the Franklin County Civil Service Commission, it will be in effect for twelve (12) months.

SUMMARY

Call Receivers perform time sensitive work involving the transmission and accurate relay of telephone messages and requests for police, fire, emergency medical and other services. Call Receivers answer the telephones in the Dispatch Center and enter call information into the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. Call Receivers may also perform clerical and other support functions in the Dispatch Center as directed. This is a part-time position working up to 30 hours per week. Other essential job duties include but are not limited to: training other employees as required or directed, communicating effectively both orally and in writing, working rotating shifts of 10 or more hours in length, and maintaining acceptable attendance.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must have the ability to consistently think clearly and act quickly in a wide variety of emergency situations, to speak English and enunciate clearly employing an excellent vocabulary, and verbally communicate at a rapid speech rate, to read English rapidly and understand clearly what is read. The ability to write/type English rapidly and maintain legibility. To hear and clearly understand English over telephone and radio circuits. The ability to record names and numbers rapidly and accurately and to quickly recall details and essential information. Must be skilled in working multiple time sensitive tasks and issues in response to visual and sound stimuli with a high degree of accuracy, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other employees. The ability to understand and practice basic arithmetic accurately. The ability to perform duties and maintain personal conduct, attitude and appearance that conforms to strict policies, procedures, and expectations of the Sheriff’s Office. The ability to work independently, prioritizing and organizing work with minimal supervision, ability to learn and use computer hardware. Software programs, and practices/policies used in the Dispatch Center.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • • 18 years of age.
  • • High school diploma or equivalent
  • • Pass written test.
  • • Meet all civil service requirements.
  • • Pass all Franklin County Sheriff’s Office background requirements, including but not limited to a comprehensive background investigation.
