POTENTIAL JOB OPPORTUNITY

In an effort to maintain a continuous eligibility list for hiring of future positions, the Franklin County Civil Service Commission has determined a need to test candidates for the position of Clerk within the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Any potential candidates will need to submit a completed Franklin County Civil Service Job Application and resume, and will need to complete a written examination. Once a list has been certified by the Franklin County Civil Service Commission, it will be in effect for twelve (12) months.

SUMMARY

Under the supervision of Franklin County Sheriff’s Office Administration, this position includes skilled clerical work in typing, filing and transcribing dictation and greeting the public in person and over the telephone. This employee is responsible in keeping the office work-flow moving, as per reports etc., and working with Supervisory and Line Personnel. This position is distinguished from Office Assistant by the greater complexity of clerical assignments, performing a variety of intermediate level clerical and office tasks, requiring the specific knowledge of Corrections Center functions and procedures required to complete duties and by the more extensive detailed servicing of the public. Clerical assignments may include; the preparation of and calculations for detailed records and statistics; establishing and updating record keeping systems; verifying and entering data; editing reports or information; answer telephones and provide service to the general public by answering questions at the administrative front counter.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Must have the ability to learn the practices, methods and procedures relating the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office. Knowledge of office practices, procedures and equipment and ability to accurately type 50 words per minute, knowledge of MS Access programs and Excel spreadsheets, ability to compile and maintain comprehensive records and files, working knowledge of bookkeeping practices and procedures, ability to think and act quickly in emergency situations, has the ability to work independently, prioritize and organize work with minimum supervision, ability to establish and maintain complex manual and computerized filing and recordkeeping systems, ability to use tact, understanding and judgment in dealing with the public and fellow employees and establish good working relations with all outside agencies and the Courts. Ability to perform duties and maintain professional conduct, attitude and appearance that conforms to strict policies, procedures and discipline, and work quickly, accurately and thoroughly with close attention to detail.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • • 21 years of age.
  • • High school diploma or equivalent
  • • Pass written test.
  • • Meet all civil service requirements.
  • • Pass all Franklin County Sheriff’s Office background requirements, including but not limited to a comprehensive background investigation and polygraph examination.
