The Civil Division of the Franklin County Prosecutor acts as the attorney for the County. The Civil Division provides legal advice to elected officials and county departments. This division represents the county in civil legal actions and prepares, reviews and approves resolutions, ordinances, and agreements. Additionally, the Civil Division attends County Commissioner meetings to provide informal advice and formal legal opinions, as needed. The Civil Division also acts as the County Risk Manager, represents the State in involuntary mental health commitment hearings, and participates as a member of the County Elections Canvassing Board. The Prosecuting Attorney cannot give legal advice to the public. An attorney in private practice must be contacted for legal advice on matters such as divorce actions, landlord tenant issues and contracts.
