The Franklin County Public Works Department is comprised of Accounting and Administrative Services, Road Maintenance and Operation Division, Engineering and Traffic Services Division, Geographical Information Systems Division, Solid Waste Division, and Motor Vehicle and Equipment Division. All divisions are committed to our responsibility to provide safe, economical, and environmentally sound public road facilities and services.

NEWS RELEASE

FRANKLIN COUNTY PUBLIC WORKS

Franklin County Public Works is weight restricting trucks on our R-170 Bridge just west of Langford Road. The bridge is located on R170 Road approximately 4 miles west of Basin City and 2 miles east of SR 17. The weight restriction is due to some recently discovered broken wood structural members. The bridge has been posted for weight limits. Loaded trucks are advised to use alternate routes. This restriction will remain in place until the proper repair can be put into place. WINTER ROAD CLOSURE POLICY

Franklin County is evaluating if it is feasible to formally close, and routinely close, certain low volume roads that do not have any homes located on them for safety, budget and liability reasons. These closures would typically occur between November 15 and March 1, subject to actual weather conditions.

We have determined that we will only consider roads that meet any or all of following criteria:

Primitive Road

No homes located or isolated because of the closure

Safety of the public and/or county workers because of steep grades or drop offs

Dead ends
